Herb Spiral
Durham, NH 2006
The Herb Spiral, created for the Children's Garden, is a sensory experience designed to connect the very young (and perhaps the not so young) to their environment. The spiral (in the shape of a snail's shell) leads children through a sloping dirt path dotted with herbs of all varieties. The explorers are invited to touch, crush, taste, and smell the fragrant plants. The head of a snail is a butterfly dish working in tandem with a nearby garden to attract butterflies to the scented spiral.

This installation seeks to kindle (and rekindle) wonder in our ability to sense and the amazing variety of Nature.

The Artist climbs the spiral with helpers from the Permaculture course.
